Great Fire of London workshop
Year 2 took part in a workshop "The Great Fire of London"
In this immersive workshop, children travelled back to the year 1666 to experience what life was like during the Great Fire of London. Through hands-on activities, they engaged in the everyday tasks of the period.
The children tried their hand at various crafts, such as making soap, writing letters with quills, crafting candles, creating newspapers, practicing leatherwork, and pressing designs into clay. They also visited a doctor to learn about 17th-century medical practices.
Throughout the workshop, children were also called upon to help tackle the fire. Some formed a bucket line to extinguish the flames, others were chosen to “shoot pigeons,” and a few became firefighters working to control the blaze.
In the second part of the workshop, the children took on the role of excavators. They examined items recovered from burnt-out shops and used their problem-solving skills to determine which type of shop each item belonged to.
This engaging workshop combined history, creativity, and critical thinking, giving children a unique opportunity to explore the past in a fun and interactive way.
