Welcome to Year 1 

Autumn term

In the Autumn term, Year 1 children explore All About Me, discovering what makes them unique and expressing themselves through art and portraits. They are inspired by remarkable individuals such as David Attenborough, Mary Seacole, Guy Fawkes, and Rosa Parks, reflecting on how people can make a difference. Through this topic, children develop confidence, begin to work collaboratively, and are encouraged to try their best, show kindness, and use good manners as they learn about themselves and others.

Spring Term 

In the Spring term, children take off on an exciting journey exploring flight and materials. They learn about the Wright Brothers and how the invention of flight changed the world, while investigating different materials and their historical uses. Hands-on experiments and creative investigations develop problem-solving skills, teamwork, and perseverance. This term encourages children to work as a team, try their best, and show honesty and respect while exploring how the world around them works.

Summer Term 

In the Summer term, Year 1 children explore Growing and learn how living things change over time. They investigate plants and trees and consider how environments change. Through observation, creative activities, and experiments, children develop understanding of the natural world while working collaboratively, trying their best, and showing kindness and care for living things.
