The Phonics Screening Check helps us understand how well children can use phonics to read words. It provides teachers with valuable information to support each child’s reading development and helps parents understand how to build confidence and skills at home.

If children do not meet the expected standard in Year 1, they will have the opportunity to retake the check in Year 2.
