Phonics screening

The Phonics Screening Check helps us see how well children can use phonics to read words. It gives teachers important information to support reading and helps parents know how to build confidence and skills at home. If children do not meet the expected standard in Year 1, they will have the opportunity to retake the check in Year 2.

Please find below some resources that will support you and your child at home.

💡 Tips for using these at home:

  • Try playing a little each day to build confidence with sounds and word reading.

  • Mix game time with real books to help your child apply their phonics knowledge in reading.
