We provide a rich and engaging mathematics curriculum that inspires curiosity, builds confidence, and develops secure foundations in problem-solving, reasoning, and fluency. We believe that mathematics is an essential life skill and aim to ensure every child becomes a confident mathematician who can apply their learning in meaningful contexts.
Our curriculum is carefully structured to ensure that all children are supported to learn at their own level, while being appropriately challenged. Children are encouraged to explore mathematical ideas in a variety of ways and to develop a deep understanding through practical experiences, visual representations, and clear mathematical language.
We place a strong emphasis on the use of manipulatives and visual resources to support learning, helping children to make connections and develop a secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Children are also encouraged to explain their thinking, reason mathematically, and communicate their ideas clearly.
Across the school, learning is carefully sequenced to ensure clear progression in knowledge and skills. Children revisit key concepts regularly, allowing them to build fluency and deepen their understanding over time. They are supported to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways, including practical activities, visual models, and mathematical discussion.
We also actively involve parents in their children’s mathematical learning. Parents are invited to attend maths workshops and “Learning Together” mornings, which provide opportunities to experience aspects of the curriculum first-hand and support learning at home. PowerPoint information and resources from these sessions can be found on the school website in the Enrichment section under Parent Workshops.
