Phonics is a key priority and underpins our early reading and writing curriculum. We aim to ensure all children develop the skills needed to become confident, fluent readers.
We use the Twinkl Phonics Scheme to deliver a structured and progressive approach to phonics teaching. Children are taught to recognise sounds, blend to read words, and segment to spell, building their skills step by step.
Phonics is taught daily in a consistent and engaging way, ensuring children are supported and challenged appropriately. Children apply their phonics knowledge in both reading and writing across the curriculum.
We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. To support learning at home, please see our Phonics Links area of the website for guidance on how to pronounce sounds correctly. For year group specific activities, please visit your child’s Home Learning Hub.
At Hillside, we are committed to ensuring every child develops the foundations needed for successful reading and writing.
