Design and Technology is a creative, practical and inspiring subject that encourages children to think imaginatively about how products are designed and made. Through hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to take risks, solve problems, and develop resilience as they test, refine, and improve their ideas.
We use Kapow Design and Technology to support the delivery of our curriculum, ensuring clear progression of skills and high-quality learning experiences across the school.
Children are taught to design, make and evaluate purposeful products for a range of users. They develop their ideas through discussion, drawing, modelling and practical exploration, and learn to select appropriate tools, materials and techniques.
Throughout each unit, children explore and evaluate existing products, using this understanding to inform and improve their own designs. They are taught key technical knowledge, including structures, mechanisms (such as levers, sliders, wheels and axles), and how to make structures stronger and more stable.
