Art
Art education enables pupils to be expressive, creative and explore cultures, making links and connecting with the wider world. Artistic experiences boost children’s critical thinking, observational skills and encourages them to consider alternative perspectives. In this way children are inspired and challenged to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.
Intent
To provide a stimulating curriculum that support children to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. We will teach children to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. Children will learn to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design. Developing their skills and inspiring their minds by learning about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art form.
Implementation
Our art lessons follow the sequence set out in a familiar Talk4Writing approach.
This model allows children to
Children are taught the importance of colour and how it can be manipulated to create mood and texture within an art piece. Children will explore various mediums and how to use them properly using tools and other manipulations related to a topic. We have purposefully planned for children to learn about a variety of artists from around the world to support children in making links and appreciating their connections with works of art and culture.
All Year groups are taught:
Each year group develops the skills taught in the previous year by learning about a new artist and applying it in different ways.
