  • Early Learning Goals

The Early Learning Goals (ELGs) outline the key skills and knowledge children are expected to achieve by the end of Reception. They cover:

    • Communication and language
    • Personal, social and emotional development
    • Literacy
    • Mathematics
    • Understanding the world
    • Expressive arts and design.

Core skills include listening, speaking, reading, writing, counting, problem-solving, and working with others. The ELGs help teachers understand each child’s progress, celebrate their achievements, and ensure they are well-prepared for Year 1. Learning is always approached in a playful, engaging, and supportive way, so children develop these skills naturally while enjoying their first year at school.
